My Hometown

Yesterday it was 77 degrees! Which was a record high for February in North Platte. Although it was a little (a lot) windy it was a beautiful day to go out and take pictures. I wanted to get some good pictures of the trains going beneath the viaduct near my house, but I decided that going closer to the rail yard would make more interesting photos.

My town is home to the largest railroad classification yard in the U.S. and you can see a little bit of it in a couple of these photos. The railroad has always been important in North Platte; it’s like our little claim to fame. During World War II, the North Platte Canteen served coffee, sandwiches and other goodies to the 6 million troops who traveled through the town.
